Moneyball 2011 – Week 6 Review

Michael Turner had a solid game, and looked like the old Michael Turner throughout this game, breaking tackles and getting yards after contact. Ovie Mughelli looked back to be in his old form. Granted, it did come against a horrible Panthers run defense, but it’s still somewhat promising for the rest of the year. The Falcons dominated a run defense that they should have dominated. Despite this however, I think the Falcons still...

Turner burns Panthers

The Falcons earned their third win of the season with a 31-17 win over the Carolina Panthers to get their first victory in the NFC South. The Falcons record now moves to 3-3. Matt Ryan passed for 163 yards while completing 14 of 22 passes with a touchdown. He also had a rushing touchdown on the day as well. But the Falcons were led on the ground by Michael Turner who had 139 yards on 27 carries with 2 touchdowns. Tony Gonzalez led...

FalcFans Podcast – Ep. 8 “Screw You Guys”

We are now available on iTunes! Ryan and I are back to discuss more Atlanta Falcons football. This week, we discuss some of the issues that plagued the Falcons offense and defense during the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, which I compare to getting a prostate exam. We also get into what twe expect with Julio Jones being injured as the Falcons take on the Carolina Panthers. This game could be a litmus test to the Falcons...

Jones Out for Week 6

The Falcons ruled wide receiver Julio Jones out for this weekend’s game against the Carolina Panthers due to a hamstring injury he suffered in the fourth quarter while running a deep pattern. In the absence of Jones, the Falcons will likely look for more contributions from reserve Kerry Meier, who in four games played so far this year, has yet to make an appearance on regular offense. Also not participating in Wednesday’s...

Falcons Need Periphery More Involved on Offense

On Sunday night, Falcon fans were treated to two things. The first was what a dynamic offense looks like in the form of the Green Bay Packers, and the other was glimpses of the same from the Falcons. Aaron Rodgers connected with 12 different receivers over the course of Sunday Night’s game. Matt Ryan and the Falcons with 7. That’s not a low number, as 6 or 7 targets in the passing game is fairly typical at this level of...

Falcons Highlight of the Week

Most of the highlights of the Falcons loss to the Green Bay Packers last Sunday night come from the first half. This week’s highlight is nothing flashy, just a mundane one-yard touchdown run by Michael Turner. But it was nice to see the Falcons bully the Packers a little bit early on. Had the 47-yard throwback pass to Harry Douglas stood, that play probably would have been the highlight of the game, but alas Tyson Clabo made...

Moneyball 2011 – Week 5 Review

My vitriol for the play-calling on both sides of the ball in this game has subsided somewhat after reviewing the game. But I’m going to use this entry for Moneyball to vent a little about what I think are some of the problems that have plagued the Falcons this year, which are reasons why I think they have yet to reach their full potential on either side of the ball. What disappoints me the most is that the Falcons did an...

Are the Falcons a playoff team?

If they are, I think we have only seen glimpses of it. I think that was on display in the first halves of each of the past two games against Seattle and Green Bay. Particularly Green Bay, where the offense looked dynamic and the defense looked stout. Is that Falcon team going to be able to show up for more than just two quarters in any game? Are the Falcons going to make a habit of starting strong, but then at halftime when it comes...

Packers clip the Falcons

The Falcons started strong, but were unable to sustain their momentum with a 25-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers. The Falcons offense was shut out in the second half, and now the team’s record drops to 2-3. Matt Ryan completed 18 of 32 passes for 167 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Both picks came in the fourth quarter with the Falcons trying to mount a comeback. Michael Turner led the ground attack with 16 carries...

Babineaux, Abraham questionable vs. Packers

There is a fifty percent chance that the Falcons will see defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux return to the lineup this weekend against the Green Bay Packers, as he was listed as questionable on this week’s injury report. Babineaux suffered a sprained MCL in the season opener against the Bears and has missed the past four games. He participated on a limited basis in all three days of practice this week. Also listed as...
