Allen and I return a day later than usual with our special guest Tom Melton to break down the Atlanta Falcons’ Week Three win over the Dallas Cowboys as well as preview their Week Four matchup against the Houston Texans.
Over the course of our discussion with Tom, we hit topics such as whether Julio Jones is the most dangerous man on the planet, what caused Devonta Freeman’s dominance and whether Patrick DiMarco is a poor man’s Ovie Mughelli. We wonder if we witnessed the maximum potential of the Falcons in their second-half dominance of the Cowboys, whether Chris Chester or another blocker is the biggest surprise up front and why Tyson Jackson and Paul Soliai have improved. We also compare Devonta Freeman with Tevin Coleman, Jason Witten with Tony Gonzalez and Keith Brooking with Paul Worrilow before the show is over. We raise whether there should be concerns about Ricardo Allen, Matt Ryan’s ability to carry the team, what’s wrong with Roddy White and wonder if Nick Williams’ catch will be glorified for all eternity.
When we move on to the previewing the Texans game there are more comparisons, including that between the current Texans and the Jim Mora-led Falcons teams and how Ryan Mallett stacks up to Colin Kaepernick. We ask if a blowout is looming, can either team get off to a fast start and answer just how good Jadeveon Clowney is. Before we’re through, we also briefly discuss what the Jared Allen trade means for both the Carolina Panthers and Falcons.
