Falcons 2015 Training Camp: Day 4 Report

Brett Davis-USA TODAY SportsSean Renfree (12) has better chance to shine this against the Titans

The Atlanta Falcons had another padded practice on the fourth day of training camp. Here are the collected and collated headlines that emerged from the day.

Young Running Back Emerging

Undrafted rookie running back Terron Ward dotted the twitter timelines of several camp observers with a couple of standout plays.

Quarterback Battle

The early observations indicate that Sean Renfree is potentially making a move on T.J. Yates for the right to serve as the backup to quarterback Matt Ryan. Their battle also illustrated the high standards to which rookie wide receiver Justin Hardy is holding himself.

Tight End Battle

We got a bit more of an insight into how each of the Falcons three main tight ends are faring thus far in camp today. Jacob Tamme is expected to start at the position, while Levine Toilolo and Tony Moeaki are competing for the right to be the top backup behind him.

Battle in the Trenches

The Falcons defense seemed to be getting the better of the offense in 11-on-11 drills throughout the day with one notable exception.

Ward continued to shine in pass protection drills, cleaning Vic Beasley’s clock. The play led to Beasley being briefly shaken up, but he returned to practice shortly.

Falcons Get a Day Off

Falcons will receive a day off tomorrow on Tuesday and get back to the grind on Wednesday. Their next day off is scheduled to be this upcoming Saturday, coming after their annual Friday Night Lights event.

Odds and Ends

  • The Falcons received a visit from famed boxing trainer Freddie Roach today as a special guest.
  • Linebacker Brooks Reed was limited in practice due to a strain, apparently a lingering issue from the hip/groin issues that limited him throughout the offseason. Justin Durant had a second consecutive day off, while Cliff Matthews and Ricky Havili-Heimuli were held out of practice due to ankle and hip injuries, respectively.
  • Julio Jones gave Knox Bardeen no updates on the status of the negotiations for his new contract extension, instead focusing on football in the meantime.
