The AJC reports that the Falcons have signed Houston Texans cornerback Von Hutchins. ESPN reports that the contract signed is a four-year deal worth $9 million, including $2.35 million in guarantees.
Hutchins split time at cornerback and safety last year, starting 15 games. He could compete for a starting cornerback spot here in Atlanta if disgruntled corner DeAngelo Hall is traded at some point. He finished last season with 94 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 1 interception, and 6 passes defended. He joined the Texans in 2006 after two season as a reserve corner in Indianapolis. He was originally a sixth round pick by the Colts out of Ole Miss in 2004.
Hutchins joins safety Erik Coleman as the Falcons first two free agent signings, and a clear sign of changes and hopefully improvements to their secondary.
