The Falcons announced the release of three players this morning including linebacker Derek Nicholson, cornerback Ronnie Prude, and safety Marcus Paschal. Nicholson was an undrafted rookie free agent signed after last month’s draft, while Prude and Paschal were both added following the season.
These roster moves leave the Falcons at 74 players on their roster, not including the eight unsigned rookie draft picks. League rules prohibit teams from carrying more than 80 players on their roster during the off-season. That means that the Falcons have the options of carrying up to six more players between now and when their draft picks begin to sign their contracts, likely to be in June and July. Or the team will have to release at least two more players in order to get all eight draft picks signed.
