The Falcons got an early start on free agency, by retaining veteran cornerback Brian Williams per a report by Alex Marvez of FOX Sports. Marvez reports that Williams agreed to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal are undisclosed. The free agent signing period kicks off at midnight tonight.
Earlier this month, the Falcons re-signed wide receiver Brian Finneran before he could hit the open market. Like Finneran, Williams ended the season on the Falcons injured reserve. Williams suffered a torn ACL in Week 6 matchup against the Chicago Bears. He was signed by the Falcons a week before the season began after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Williams was immediately promoted to starting cornerback for the team and thru five starters recorded 18 tackles, 1 interception, and a fumble recovery.
Marvez’s report indicates that Williams is still re-habbing from his injury and may not be ready by the time off-season workouts begin later this month. But it’s likely Williams will be healthy by the time training camp commences in July.
