The AJC reports that Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff has indicated that the Falcons will not be “major players” in free agency this year, and thusly will not be pursuing defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.
Free agency kicks off on February 27, and it was thought in some circles that the Falcons would be among the chief suitors for Haynesworth, who many consider the top defensive tackle in the league and the top free agent available this spring. But Dimitroff’s statements Friday morning during the Combine indicated that the Falcons won’t be in the market for not only Haynesworth’s services, but also other top free agents as well. Dimitroff said that the team’s aim is to re-focus on building via the draft.
In other Falcon related free agent news, ESPN.com’s Pat Yasinskas reports that the return of cornerback Domonique Foxworth is iffy at this point. Foxworth is set to be a free agent, but it is believed that he will seek to test the market come February 27 in order to maximize his contract.
