Falcons Waive Mooney and Howard

The Atlanta Falcons announced that they have waived fullback Collin Mooney and cornerback Travis Howard, both players spent the entire 2015 season on injured reserve after suffering injuries in the team’s preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens.

Mooney (elbow) and Howard (shoulder) both were injured in the final preseason game after pushing for roster spots. Mooney was neck and neck with fullback Patrick DiMarco for a roster spot prior to his injury. But after going down for the season, DiMarco put together an All-Pro season as the team’s lone lead blocker, making Mooney a bit more expendable.

Mooney had a couple of notable plays during the preseason, recording a single reception for 60 yards and also scoring a touchdown on his lone rushing attempt, which happened to be a fumble recovery on a bobbled snap.

Howard was a late addition to the Falcons roster during training camp, but was able to quickly move up the depth chart to working with the second team defense within two weeks of being signed. However his shoulder injury sidelined any potential he had to land a roster or practice squad spot. In three preseason appears with the Falcons, he recorded a trio of tackles and a pass breakup.
