Falcons waive Toone

The Falcons announced yesterday that they have waived wide receiver Tim Toone. Toone finished the 2012 season on the Falcons, but did not make any appearances. He was picked up by the team originally on the eve of training camp last summer after being released by the Denver Broncos in the off-season. Originally the final pick of the 2010 draft by the Detroit Lions, Toone spent a year on the Lions practice squad. He was cut by the Lions in September 2011, and finished the year on the practice squad of the Buffalo Bills before the Broncos picked him up after the season.

He joined the Falcons and was waived-injured to start the season. But he was brought back by the team in November of last year due to some of the struggles by Dominique Franks as a punt returner. That was a role that Toone flashed potential last summer in the preseason with the Falcons. The Falcons now have an extra roster spot open on their 90-man roster to begin training camp. Players report today and practices begin tomorrow.
