Re: Devonta due for a down year?

Blank and Friends keep making the same mistake over and over hiring coaches with no HC experience at the NFL level and--aside from Petrino--HC experience anywhere to my knowledge. They got lucky with Smith who, IMO, has been scapegoated just as all the position coaches were...not to say there was no...

Re: Devonta due for a down year?

I paraphrase but as the season heated up last year M. Strahan described Freeman's running style as entertaining but not one conducive to longevity. Pretty much nailed it. He seems a little more like a third down back (remember those?) as opposed to the bell cow (remember those?).

Re: The board is officially dead

You lost a lot of historical context and reference with that move. Was always fun to look back at stuff and see what folks were saying and thinking. that was a shame but life goes on. I think there may be some general boredom/dissatisfaction with the team in general. Just not much to get excited abo...

Re: Coping With The Atlanta Falcons’ 2016 Offseason

I don't follow Twitter but it could be very helpful for you, Pudge. Basically what you are saying is that the Falcons have no plan other than "out drafting" the competition which has been their plan since 1966. LB is a black hole here and has been forever, it seems. The last time they seem...

Re: Spoon back!

Frankly, he just seemed kind of invisible to me. His main impact was on D Block. Pretty good there.

I liked what Showdown at the Roost said: Is there anyway you can sign a guy directly to IR.

Re: Roddy Gone

What she mentions in the podcast about the relationship between Roddy's HS wrestling success and his physicality and toughness as a football player is a great point and that toughness is what we are really going to miss from him. I would not describe him as having the most elite set of hands in the ...

Re: Roddy Gone

Not a surprise. Not sure why it had to go down exactly like that given the length of time between the end of the season and now but such is life in the league. I'll miss Roddy but life goes on. 34 is ancient for a WR.

Re: Falcons release Moore and Durant

"...all in your camera." I'll miss Moore but he seems to have paid the price for his physical style. If your factor in his rookie year the overall percentage of games lost to injuries compounded by games exited hampered by injuries is pretty big. Youth must be served. Hitters with sp...

Re: Falcons release Moore and Durant

Expensive and diminished by injuries? Always liked Moore as an intimidator but maybe that style of play is more liability now than asset. Durant started the year well but seemed pretty invisible later. Hard to imagine any legit NFL LBer is expendable in ATL right now though. Reed made about a millio...

Re: Falcons Shuffle Coaching Staff, Move Raheem to WRs

I really felt like the wins the first few weeks were a little misleading. We could have just as easily lost most of those games although our O was rolling pretty well for a minute. By the same token, were it not for all those ridiculous RZ TOs we could have taken some of the later ones.I think all F...

Re: Falcons Year-End Superlatives: 2015 Most Disappointing Player

I think of Brees as mobile. There just aren't many QBs in the league as ungraceful as Matt besides maybe Manning and Brady! I've never thought Matt's pocket presence was remarkable. You know how Brees, Brady are so good at shifting just a little bit to one side or the other to buy time? Again, possi...

Re: Falcons Year-End Superlatives: 2015 Most Disappointing Player

Valid points...except about the refuge. Consider that Manning this year is prob as bad as a SB QB gets. We could win it all with Ryan but the margin for error is smaller than with a Russell Wilson, Aaron Rogers, T Brady, Drew Brees, etc., and keep in mind that list only includes one guy who ha...

Re: Falcons Shuffle Coaching Staff, Move Raheem to WRs

It was not until fairly recently that I had really perused the 12, 13 draft and realized how bad they were. You just cannot really weather that many misses in that short a time and, as you say, Baker was a big mistake...maybe from Day One though he cobbled together a few decent seasons. Players play...

Re: Falcons Year-End Superlatives: 2015 Most Disappointing Player

I still think of MR as an uber game manager and I think he has been given plenty of weapons when you compare him to, say, Tom Brady. When you have the $ we have tied up in Matt and JJ it is hard to keep loading up on O talent. They've spent bad money (S. Jackson) in an effort to help him. I just won...

Re: Falcons Year-End Superlatives: 2015 Most Disappointing Player

Mos def have to go with MR. He gave critics all the ammo they needed this year by putting his weakest attributes on full display. Matty Ice Pick was esp brutal this year in crunch time and the mind blowing fumbles continued. I've generally been a pretty tepid Matt fan. I admire his toughness and his...

Re: Falcons Shuffle Coaching Staff, Move Raheem to WRs

Yeah, I didn't say you said it needed no coaching. You said it needed virtually no coaching so the argument I was making sort of stands. Maybe you are not needing to help JJ or Hardy but there are the other guys and this will hold true for whoever becomes their pos coach. You may recall Roddy giving...

Re: Falcons Shuffle Coaching Staff, Move Raheem to WRs

So, why waste his talents on a pos that needs virtually no coaching? That unravels pretty quickly too. BTW, P, I read your piece about the 98 Falcs over at the Roost. Enjoyed it. Pulled up a lot of tidbits about back then and that era I had forgotten about such as M. Rypien being on the team. and I ...

Re: So what now?

Andreas! Remember when Tom Petty sang, "You don't have to live like a refugee!" I'd be on board with a largely D oriented draft and/or FA signing off season though interior OL, TE and a WR wouldn't hurt. But we've spent so many resources on O it seems over the years. Nobody on the Pa...

Re: So what now?

Is Quinn good at his job? I'd say LB in priority #1. We've been gearing the team towards offense for 30 years. Why not try something new? The Broncos just knocked off the heir apparent to the SB with a greatly diminished Peyton Manning and the league's #1 D. Our LB corps seems to be comprised of guy...
