According to TMZ.com, police in Oceanside, California are investigating a shooting at a residence where former NFL linebacker Junior Seau is believed to be staying. The gossip website is being told by law enforcement officials that the 43-year-old Seau is dead.
Details are still unclear, but Seau appears to have taken his own life.
A former standout at USC, Seau was selected with the fifth overall pick of the 1990 by the San Diego Chargers, where he spent 13 seasons, the last twelve of which ended in trips to the Pro Bowl After a three-year stint with the Miami Dolphins, Seau briefly retired before signing a contract with the New England Patriots, where he'd spent the last four years of his 20-year career.
Seau is a member of the NFL's All-1990s team, Chargers' Hall of Fame and 50th Anniversary team, and will surely be inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Life after football has been struggle for Seau, who was arrested in San Diego on domestic violence charges in October of 2010. Following his release from jail on that charge, Seau fell asleep at the wheel and drove his SUV off a cliff.
