He's a FA for the Lions this year, and is probably likely to merit less attention on the market than Kevin Shaffer. But if you watch them play they are too similar players, except I believe Shaffer is ahead of Backus in terms of run blocking.
Not saying, I'd love to have Backus. He's had 2 consecutive disappointing years in Detroit, but he's a player that would fit in this scheme, and if he could be had a significantly less than Shaffer, I believe the Falcons would make a hard run at him in free agency.
