Dolphins | Team interested in Schafer; but he may be too expensive
Fri, 10 Mar 2006 05:28:19 -0800

Jason Cole, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins expressed interest in free agent LT Kevin Shaffer (Falcons), but his price tag appears to be too high. Shaffer is expected to receive $5 million to $6 million per year.

haha...shaffer is definately not worth this. Someone is going to be very disappointed.

I just read that. He must have a delusional agent or a team has actually whispered to him that they would pay him that. It's crazy any way you look at it.

This is the Roberto Garza situation all over again.

It's all about supply and demand. Tackle supply is low, so the demand increases with the dollars. 5-6 million he can go where ever he wants, as long as were not the ones paying the bill.

Yep, quality starting LTs are rarely available via free agency, so whenever guys do become available, teams over pay. And it's not just LTs, but RTs get the same treatment, except their contracts aren't as big. That's how it was with Weiner when we signed him back in 2002. Shaffer is the best LT available since Lepsis and Backus were plucked off the market.

I believe Shaffer is going to continue to develop into a good NFL player. In Cleveland, now with Bentley, Andruzzi, Shaffer, Tucker, and Coleman, they have a solid OL. The Browns have built themselves a line that should be able to clear holes for Droughns.
