I was surprised to see the following headlines on KFFL today:

Edgerrain James signs with the Arizona Cardinals
Vikes sign Steve Hutchinson to a $49 million dollar offer sheet
Will Witherspoon signs with the Rams
Antwaan Randle El signs with the Redskins

Players are moving fast an furious this year. So much for a slow start to free agency.

I think the cap situation caused some people to get anxious.

Yeah but we offered Antwan Lake a tender sheet. Come on, we are making moves!!! Ha Ha. I do hope we do something soon. I would love to see us make a couple of signings. As for ths other signings, they are going like crazy and for big money too. Craziness!

I wouldnt mind seeing us get Milloy or even Chavous. It would fill the void a little better and maybe get a decent replacement for Smith on the end. I am just a little concerned with our slow start considering we are 12.2 million under the cap.

Well Chavous signed with the Rams so he's out, but I would really like us to get Milloy. He would add some veteran leadership to our secondary.

perhaps McKay is letting the stupid GMs overpay early.

even if the falcons don't make a big move this year they made indeed put themselves in position to be a major player next offseason.

i don't see anyone out there that would have helped the falcons a great deal other then maybe Hutchinson, Abraham, Malloy, or Chavous.

i don't know what Chavous signed for the Hutchinson and Abraham came at too steep a price.

McKay always waits until a week or two into free agency before making many moves. It was the 3rd week of free agency that we signed Hartwell last year I believe.

McKay gets who he wants and doesn't let the lunacy of over paying GM's take over his signings.

well a safety like Milloy would be nice. perhaps even a younger yet to be proven one that McKay digs up somewhere.

it would make us flexible going into the draft. i hate to say it but the Falcons are going into this draft looking for players in rounds 1 and 2 who will start.

I don't know about Milloy considering his age. I don't really want to fix the safeties with bandaids. What would really be the difference in Milloy over Carp? Carp had the brains, but not the physical skill to play safety anymore. Would Milloy at 31 ( I think?), be an upgrade? I'd rather us spend the money on Abraham honestly.

I'd be all for signing Milloy. He'd be able to lend some veteran experience to whatever young safeties we bring in via the draft. Milloy is not a long-term solution, but he's a short-term upgrade. He could be a better starter for the next 2 years or so than we got out our guys the past 2 years.

McKay is going to bide his time, and let the other GMs set the market. There are a lot of solid veteran safeties out there, and there's no need to rush into overpaying for any of them, including Milloy.

Hutchinson's contract from what I've seen is insane. I'm sorry, but close to $50 mil?

Personally, I'd rather us sit and wait and get one or two second tier players for good $, save the rest for the draft, then turn around and roll it all over into next year with LTEB's (or whatever they're called), as opposed to overpaying someone just to make a splash in FA.

What is really funny about this is that the Vikings are willing to pay all this money for a guard, but they have no capable running back to hit the holes that Hutch would open up. Stupid move, IMO.

Does anyone know why haven't we released Brian Scott yet? He obviously has zero tackling skills, and doesnt belong in the NFL.

Because Scott isn't a total wash. His performances in 2003 and 2004 were not all that bad, in fact he was the best safety we had in those years when our safety play wasn't atrocious.

Scott played very poorly in 2005, but don't give up on his career. I'll bet anyone that Scott will start this year for the Falcons.
