Free agent defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin is visiting the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports.

Franklin, 31, has 204 tackles, four sacks and an interception during his 114-game career with the Baltimore Ravens (2003-06), San Francisco 49ers (2007-10) and New Orleans Saints, where he started nine of 16 games last season.

Jonathan Babineaux and Corey Peters are entrenched as the Falcons' starting defensive tackles, with 2009 first round pick Peria Jerry and restricted free agent Vance Walker backing them up. Should Franklin join the Falcons, he'd be reunited with Mike Nolan, who was the Ravens' defensive coordinator in 2003-04 and the 49ers head coach from 2005-08. Nolan became the Falcons defensive coordinator on January 17.

Franklin played under Nolan in both Baltimore and San Fran. Would be a nice run plugger for the team in the middle.

Wonder what took them so long to bring him in, and generally makes me think that most of the stuff that happens in the week or so leading up to the draft has more to do with smokescreens than actual moves.

I know you are big on him Pudge and I'm a fan as well. I know he didn't do much in New Orleans but he won't be asked for a huge role. He'll be a backup most likely but still has some great value since Peria stinks.
