Atlanta Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes has signed his one-year franchise tender, Jay Adams of AtlantaFalcons.com reports.
Grimes' tender is worth $10.281 million in base salary for 2012, which is now fully guaranteed.
Originally signed by the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Shippensburg, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound cornerback has 248 tackles, 13 interceptions and 56 passes defensed in 58 career games. Grimes played last year on a "First Round" restricted free agent tender worth $2.611 million in base salary.
Grimes had 49 tackles and an interception in 12 games last season, with a knee injury keeping him out for the four of the final five regular season games and Atlanta's playoff loss to the New York Giants.
Of the 21 players designated with the franchise tag, seven have signed their one-year tender or a multi-year extension. Grimes joins Cleveland Browns kicker Phil Dawson, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer and Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis in signing their tender. Indianapolis Colts defensive end Robert Mathis, New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson have signed contract extensions.
