DE Anderson looking like nice addition for Bengals

Posted Aug. 19, 2012 @ 2:02 p.m. ET
By Mike Wilkening

The Bengals added DEs Jamaal Anderson and Derrick Harvey in free agency to bolster their depth after the losses of Frostee Rucker and Jonathan Fanene. While Harvey did not pan out and was released, Anderson looks like he will have a place in the Bengals’ DL rotation this season. With DEs Robert Geathers and Carlos Dunlap recovering from knee injuries, the 6-6, 280-pound Anderson has become all the more important to the Bengals. Anderson, whom the Falcons selected eighth overall in the 2007 draft, has not been much of pass-rush threat throughout his career, but he’s a stout presence on the edge, and he can play both DE spots. “He’s a tremendous athlete — that’s why he was a high pick in the draft,” head coach Marvin Lewis said recently. “He’s got great experience, and most importantly he’s a very, very good person. He has that veteran presence about him. He understands football, he understands defensive line play."

Yes, Marvin, more important than anything is that guys on the roster are good people. Football skills really aren't even a factor.

Jamaal was a victim of his draft status not unlike A. Bruce. He always seemed to try to me unlike Ray Edwards. Just being able to hang around in the NFL means you are pretty good. There are only so many D. Wares.

Jamaal was really a victim of his poor play......I do agree that if you stick around the NFL 7 or 8 years you got to be tougher than
Jamaal looked. Even a guy a Anderson makes a lot of money!!

Well, if you must pick nits I'd say no one in the NFL is much of a"vicitim" of anything. Just a figure of speech. Had he been drafted in the fourth round or been a FA I don't think folks would have been so hard on him. He was good versus the run.

BnB of course your right; but he was picked #8 and was paid millions; its not his fault but the guy who did
make the decision was promoted to President of the Franchise? I guess the more your paid and the higher your drafted it
just comes with expectations; even if its not fair (:

Every time I see or hear his name I think about what Patrick Willis or Darelle Revis would look like in a Falcons uniform :beef: .
