NFR: Gruden to Eagles??

Postby Pudge » Sat Nov 10, 2012 11:19 am

From ESPN Rumors section on Thursday:

In a post earlier this week, we had an early look at some potential head coach candidates for the Philadelphia Eagles this upcoming offseason if they move on from Andy Reid, as some believe is nearly inevitable at this point. One big name who will be linked to any NFL opening is ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, and sure enough, there's been some linkage -- albeit speculative -- on Thursday.

Howard Eskin of 94 WIP radio reports via sources that Gruden wants to coach again, and suggests the Eagles could be a match. Gruden served as Eagles offensive coordinator from 1995 to 1997 under Ray Rhodes, and shares an agent with Eagles GM Howie Roseman (as well as Reid, incidentally).

Charlie Campbell of has reported that Gruden has also started looking into potential assistant coaches around the league regarding their availability to be on his staff, should he get hired somewhere. Campbell also passes along word that Gruden would prefer a big-market team this time around, which would include Philly as well as Dallas.

Gruden would have to be sold on the available pieces in Philly (or anywhere else), and it's unclear just what the team will be doing with QB Michael Vick, a big part of that puzzle. And to reiterate, this is mostly speculative at this point, but certainly a logical pairing to think about for 2013 should Reid lose his job.
