CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns will listen to offers, but have no immediate plans to trade or release backup quarterback Colt McCoy, a source said.

However, McCoy might want to seek his release so that he can catch on with another team now that the Browns have signed quarterback Jason Campbell to a two-year deal.

The Browns would like to keep McCoy around to compete with Brandon Weeden and Campbell, but McCoy might want an opportunity to be higher than third on a team's depth chart.

The Browns also have Thad Lewis on the roster.

McCoy, the backup last season to Brandon Weeden, is not viewed as a match for the downfield, vertical passing game of new coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner, and would fit better in a shorter passing game.

Even if does stick around through training camp, there's a chance he won't be on the roster at the start of the season.

McCoy has gone 6-15 as a starting quarterback for the Browns, including 4-9 in 2011. He's thrown for 21 touchdowns, 20 interceptions and has a career 74.8 passer rating.

McCoy, who was drafted by former Browns team president Mike Holmgren, had expected to be the starter last season, but was replaced after the Browns selected Weeden with the No. 22 overall pick.

Campbell, 31-40 as a starter, is expected to press Weeden for the starting job this season.
