Dansby?

In reporting Karlos Dansby's visit to the Arizona Cardinals, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport disclosed on "NFL Total Access" Wednesday that the linebacker has generated "a ton of interest" but has been "a little picky" in the free-agency process.

Dansby has only visited the Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills. The perception is that he's yet to sign because teams no longer view him as a solid starter at age 31. That's not the case.
Dansby revealed to Arizona Sports 620's John Gambadoro that he has received interest from other clubs, including the New York Jets, Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons.

The Texans and Falcons have salary-cap issues, though the latter should free up $4.5 million on June 1 when released tackle Tyson Clabo's $4.5 million base salary comes off the books. The Falcons could then take a closer look at Dansby or veteran defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who played college ball at Georgia.

Dansby characterized his Arizona visit as a "good meeting" and said "it would be good to finish where he started" his NFL career. If the Cardinals don't meet his asking price or playing-time requests, though, the veteran linebacker will have other options.

I'd rather sign Dansby that Seymour without question. Dansby can play the Mike Peterson role on this squad but with decidedly more left in the tank.

I'd bet that Dansby ends up in Arizona.

Problem is that if Dansby doesn't start, he's not gonna play special teams. And if you start him at the MIKE, that isn't a terrible proposition since Dent is an outstanding ST player. Stevie Nicks is also one of our better ST players, and if Dansby is the SAM (IMO the more likely scenario), then you've replacing an aging starter with a guy that is in fact 18 months older, and now you're saddled with a $4M backup.

Short term upgrade, but long term its just a lateral move.
