The Browns are having a tough summer for OL. I wonder if Shaffer is the next one in the injury bug's cross-hairs.

I know Hallen's tenure in Atlanta was nothing special, but had he managed to survive the Mangurian years here, I think he would currently be a valued starter on this team. He was a player that adjusted much better to the zone-blocking schemes that Mangurian installed back in 2001 than other starters (like Whitfield). And it's showed in San Diego in recent years. He was no star there, but more than an acceptable starter when he's had to fill in.

Hallen could have been the physical center that so many here want.

Not saying that Hallen's improvement over recent years makes him a good draft pick for us. But I think he's a good example of how circumstances dramatically affect a player's career. A combination of poor coaching, poorly fitting scheme, and apathy made Hallen one of many "bust" O-linemen in Atlanta, but had he been drafted a few years later, he probably would be considered one of our better OL with Gibbs running things.
