Long Season

Postby MarylandFalcon1 » Sat Aug 12, 2006 7:44 am

It will be a LONG season, and not in the good way, if our run D is as horrible as it was last night. We may have looked worse, if that is possible, than we did last season. You know, we give a lot of crap to Knapp, but at least his offense has gotten better. I mean, did you see that stat improvement from 04 to 05? It is the D that has gone to crap, and either Donetell, or more importantly Mora (The Defensive minded rookie coach) who may need the pink slip. You can't spend the kind of money and draft picks we did and still give up those kind of running yards. The only stroke of brilliance in our draft was Norwood, and again that only helps our already pretty darn decent offense.

"I am certainly not afraid to have Brian Finneran on the field. Has he ever not made plays? He just makes plays. He is one of those guys that just makes plays. He is dependable."

Our running D scares the s*** out of me. We need to fix this before September.

Luckily, we can dismiss it as opening game jitters. But you're right, if this doesn't get better as the preseason progresses, we're going to be in trouble again this year.

Im in the exact same boat as you guys. Our run D needs to step up this year for us to be successful. Im just not as worried as most and here is a stat to back up my thoughts.

SF vs CHI

The bears gave up 397 total yds and 150 rush yds to the lowly 49'ers!
A. Smith at QB and Frank Gore as their feature back.

Its only the first game of the preseason and most team are playing base packages to just see how good their respective players may be. Once the season starts and the exotic blitzes and stunt packages are put in, then we can be worried if the trend continues.

Don't count out Smith being a much better QB this year. He has all the tools and some very interesting targets to throw to...Vernon Davis being one of them. Bryant can hold his own as well.

I totally agree with you. I wouldnt doubt it if A. Smith is a top 10 QB in this league one day. Im just showing that you cant put your whole heart into the first preseason game and get discouraged by it too much. Like I said before, I am a little worried but not as much as most. Our run D has 3 more games to go and I will be watching and hoping that I see the improvements needed to contend for a title.
