John Madden signed a six-year contract to join NBC Sunday Night Football, starting next season. Reportedly, NBC is looking into adding Al Michaels, but will wait until the NBA Finals are over before making their decision.
I'm a bit surprised that NBC is not drooling over the possibility of linking Madden and their go-to guy Bob Costas. Maybe they are looking at Michaels because of cost issues, since if Costas does football for NBC as well, it will likely mean they will need to pay him more.
I'm one of many people that is not a fan of Madden. Madden is an icon, but in terms of sports broadcasting, he really brings nothing more to the table than any of the 2nd and 3rd tier guys that work for Fox and ESPN.
I'm not exactly surprised by this move. We all knew that Madden was going to join either ESPN (staying on MOnday nights) or NBC (for SUnday Nights).
I think my best hope is that this is Brett Favre's final season in the NFL, so that I will no longer hear Madden going ga-ga over #4 anymore.
