ESPN.com reports that former Ravens linebacker Peter Boulware might be conducting a workout later this month for any and all teams interested in acquiring his services.
"It's obvious Pete is going to have to go out and show teams that he's healthy before they offer him a contract," said agent Roosevelt Barnes. "And if that's the case, then I'd rather have him do it one time, for everyone, rather than have to go through a series of these things. Like a come-one-come-all kind of thing. That's the way we're thinking now, if we can set it up at a time and place that works for everybody."
Of course, there was one team that offered him a deal without such concerns.
The Ravens, to be precise.
Even though he missed all of the 2004 season due to injury, Baltimore offered Boulware a contract worth $2 million in salary and up to $2 million more in incentives. Given his protracted presence on the free-agent shelf, it's now obvious that Barnes failed to gauge the market for Boulware's services before telling the Ravens to shove it.
Boulware has visited with the Texans, Seahawks, and Browns since his release from the Ravens. None has matched the money that the Ravens were willing to pay.
And it's unlikely that any will.
So Boulware waits for the deal that may never come, along with other guys like Ty Law and Ross Verba who spat in the eye of teams that, in hindsight, were willing to pay these guys a lot more than anyone else.
Not that the Falcons are in any financial position to sign Boulware, he definitely would be a nice addition to this team. Not for his LB abilities, but his ability as a pass rusher. I believe many of the teams that have looked at Boulware have considered him as a DE, which IMO is the best position for him in a non 3-4 team. He of course excelled at LB in the Ravens 4-3 days, but I think right now considering his age and health, he would be much better suited to be a situational pass rusher at DE, similar to Jason Gildon for the Jaguars this past season.
If Boulware proves to be close to 100% by the time of his workout, I think the Falcons should consider him, although I do believe he's most likely not going to be a Falcon.
