With the signing of Pathon I am thinking the falcon's signed him for his veteran leadership with the receivers and he still has talent.Any thoughs on Pathon? Is this a good signing?

Does this mean the end of Romby?

Good signing, he will help open up the passing offense and is comparable to Peerless Price, meaning he is a quality 3 or 4 receiver...maybe even a decent 2 with a great #1 on the other side.

Yeah Romby is on his way out, or to the practice squad, I'm sure.

I think you guys are not seeing the real reason Pathon was signed. He is a KR with decent WR ability. They have been trying to move Rossum away from the KR duties for a while now, and this signing elludes to that goal. It helps that Pathon has been relatively successful as a WR as well, but he is in no way going to supplant any of our current WRs on the depth chart except for Bryant (who I think is gone).

Nice call Jag, I am pretty sure you are right about this. With the loss of so many CBs to the team we need Rossum (ugh!) back and not stressed from his return duties.

Jerome Pathon = Tim Dwight

I will take a Tim Dwight type player any day!

The only real difference is speed. Dwight has the edge (I don't have 40 times) in the speed department but I think Pathon is the more complete player.

Romby's Falcon career is done at least for this season.

Rossum hasn't ever really been better than average at returning kick offs anyway so I think this signing is a good one. It will bolster depth at the position too. Hopefully Pathin won't get a lot of chance to return kick offs anyway...

Pathon wasn't signed to be a return man. He hasn't returned a kickoff since 2001, and his lone year as a team's primary returner was a relatively average one.

Rossum's forte is definitely not kickoffs, but he's well above adequate. But he's better than Dwight is or ever was on kickoffs, and the numbers say so.

I'm not sure why Pathon was added, but I can be pretty sure it wasn't for return duties. I think if the Falcons wanted help on kickoffs they would've picked up Cobb. I think the reason why the team used Bryant instead of Cobb was because Bryant was better on ST coverage (which is why Bryant is still on the team). Well, Pathon doesn't have a lot of experiecne on ST coverage there, so I see the team signing him for the reason of offense.

Pathon has good speed, but he's not a pure burner. He can get downfield and is the type of receiver that I think could be a good fit in the slot for us. But he's inconsistent, drops too many passes, and has too many lapses. He's basically an undersized version of Dez White. Whenever teams in the past have relied on him to make something happen, he never has.

So this is a head-scratching move because if Dez is healthy, I see little that would indicate he would be higher than No. 4 on our depth chart, and if Dez is hurt for some time, Roddy will be the No. 3 guy until Pathon learns the offense. And by the time that happens, Roddy should be getting more accustomed and settled as the No. 3/No. 4 guy.

So we'll see how this one works out.

I'm thinking the team has given up on Roddy White making an impact THIS YEAR, and that Pathon will be the No. 4 guy to improve our chances of winning in December and (hopefully) January.

Although really, on this team, with this offense, the No. 4 WR position is a very, VERY minor role. According to his page on ESPN.com, Michael Vick has only thrown 4 passes (with 1 sack and 1 run) out of 4-wide sets. I don't think it's worth the energy to get worked up over a player who sees the field twice a game.

I'm writing it off to Mora seeing a guy he was familiar with available and us having a spot open so we signed him....he may help, he may not, but he won't hurt having him around since all of our WR's are so young
