MLB: Who should start? (AF.com)

Postby dirtybirdnw » Fri Oct 14, 2005 1:07 pm

AF.com posted a fan poll asking who people thought should start at MLB.

Brooking: 52.9%
Reese: 24.4%
Boley: 13%
Williams: 9.8%

Although moving Williams (6' 232lbs) over to middle and letting Boley get the start at strong side would be intreguing. It won't happen but on passing downs it would be worth a shot. I would note that Reese is 10lbs lighter while being 2" taller. I still think Boley should get the start at 6'3" 236lbs he fits the mold best.

According to the depth chart Reese is the new MLB....

WLB: Williams, Boley, Patterson
MLB: Reese, Cash, Leake
SLB: Brooking, Boley, Patterson

Also an update for the depth chart at CB (it's ugly)....
LCB: Hall, Rossum
RCB: Webster, Morton, Torrence

I'll also noticed that we have 1 backup at DE on the depth chart (Davis).

Wow, our depth has taken a huge hit already. I agree with starting Reese, but if he doesn't work out I am intrigued to see what Boley can do. He seems like a physical presence, but can he shed a block...which is sort of the same question I have about Reese. The great thing about Reese is he is super aggressive & willing to risk giving up a few extra yards to make a big play in the backfield. That makes for an explosive linebacker &, for those Eagles fans who down on Reese, Trotter was a special teams stud for awhile there too so I am expecting big things out of Reese and am more comfortable pulling him out on passing downs than pulling out a MLB who got a $8mil signing bonus.

Say what you want, but at least the Falcons have options here since players can play multiple positions, so the Falcons can throw a variety of lineups out there over the next few weeks to see how things work out. And unlike an OL, continuity won't be as important with LBs.
