I think we should go after either Joe Jurevicius, or Jabar Gaffney for our WR position

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Falcons keep Peterson after this year if he keeps up his Automatic inside 35 trend. Then allow Koenen to boot those deep attempts. No reason to burn a ton of cap on a kicker.

Top players for 06: DT Larry Tripplett, OLB Julian Peterson, OLB Will Witherspoon, CB Will Allen, CB Nate Clements, S Adam Archuleta, S Will Demps, S Dexter Jackson, RB Maurice Morris, RB Brian Westbrook, WR Andre Davis, WR Jabar Gaffney, WR David Givens, WR Az-Hakim, WR Antwaan Randle-El, WR Reggie Wayne, OT Jon Runyan, OR Kenyatta Walker, OG Steve Hutchinson.

I doubt we spend any money on the offense though. This will be the off-season of defense and probably lots of cash into the secondary.

Appreciate you posting the free agents.I haven't had much of a chance to look at the list but I would hope we could get a safety as a free agent since I think the draft will be used for corner, def end,off line.

They might try to get a DE for B. Smith out of the draft...but yes there main concern as of now is the secondary

I wouldn't count on Mathis comingback. He's not a young pup and was never a starter and could just call it a career.

yeah I don't really see Mathis coming back either..I hope we can shore up the safety position and any o line spots in FA....cb's are just to expensive to sign as FA so I figure we will go after one of them in the draft there are a couple of good rb's that are going to be FA...people like Davenport, Foster, Ahman Green, Maurice Morris, Chester Taylor, and Jonathan Wells would all fit in around here...I also wouldn't mind bringing in another vet wr since we are going to cut Dez...I think maybe a little veteran leadership might help...at DE I like Andre Carter, ND Kalu, and Kyle Vanden Bosch...

I would like to see us pickup Mo Morris. He is basically Warrick Dunn reincarnated. It would be nice to have a similar back to pickup where Dunn leaves off.

I haven't been a big fan of Carter. He couldn't really handle the heat at DE in San Fran and moved to linebacker. I think his biggest weakness is against the run and Chauncey Davis seems to a similar style player.

I would put Chester Taylor in that list. He could be getting shot in Balt soon if Lewis doesn't pick it up soon. I am telling you guys theis guy is the real deal.

Taylor is the real deal....one of the two won't be in Baltimore next year and I'd love to get whichever one isn't kept...

Morris has been impressive in the handful of carries I've seen him get...if they keep Alexander I don't see them keeping him too, it would be a good pick-up...

I personally would love to see us settle any offensive needs in FA so we can focus on D in the draft....

Chester Taylor is going to look to get payed ala Lamont Jordan.

what jumps out me on that list is there is only 1 or 2 stars if that at each position. there will be a rush on free agents and alot of overspending. hopefully we can have some role players fall down to us.

also all 3 of Green Bays RBs are FAs. i see making a run at Bush the way their season is going.

If GB doesn't draft defense then they are retarded and don't deserve to win games...

when you have a top 2 pick you take skill players, whether you want to or not. the only defensive player that would warrant a pick that high would be the best corner ever to come out of college ball.

and GB will have a top 2 pick.

I am sure though that they will want to turn it around quickly...I havn't lost hope on either of thier top two backs...I think that either one of them could be good enough if they could find a way to use them...but GB's offensive line is not so good, and their defense is even worse...they could use that high pick (which is seriously doubt will be top 2, SF and HOU should wrap those up) on a good O-lineman or a CB...there are supposed to be some corners worth a 3-4 pick in this draft....but this is getting way off topic sorry....

Adam Archuleta may be a good choice for us too...I know he's not so great in coverage but he's pretty good around the line of scrimmage isn't he? Not entirely positive as I havn't really seen him play this year...but a hard hitting, strong tackling, safety would help our defense more than just about anything else I can think of...

As for what the Packers may or may not do in the draft. Mario Williams would look awfully good lined up across from KGB.

Cap has a better outlook, but I suspect the Falcons won' tbe in much of a position to be spending tons of $$$ on free agents this off-season. A bright spot is that there are a lot of veterans like Weiner, Dunn, and Brady Smith that are likely to resrtucture their deals which should free up a few million. Then a guy like Kerney is probably going to get a contract extension, as will Shaffer and a few others that should ease some space. But I suspect the Falcons will do what they did last year, focus on retaining their key role players, and making 1 or 2 "headline" signings. If it's going to come anywhere, it'll probably come at WR, S, or the OL.

Archuleta is a bit overrated in my opinion. He truly excelled under Lovie Smith, but he's probably going to get paid much more than he's worth on the open market (if he's not tagged). He's a great run stopper, but in our scheme his abilities would probably be wasted since neither Mora or Donatell have shown a proclivity to add a rangy SS in the mold of Leroy Butler or Tony Parrish to help this defense. I suspect if the team goes after a safety, it will be Schulters.

Almost all the WRs that are big and fast have character issues. And even the ones that have overblown ones, have just enough that Blank and McKay are going to pass on them. It probably means that only Andre' Davis or Rod Gardner are FA options. But I suspect the Falcons will be more likely to add a cheap #4 option to replace Dez, and settle with Jenkins, Roddy, and Finn as the Top 3 receivers.

We'll have a shot at Hutchinson if Shaun Alexander gets tagged. If not, I'd love to see us sign Vince Manuwai or Trey Teague to take over the LG spot.

I feel the first question we have to weight is who gets the axe this offseason? I wonder how many times they are restructure Dunn's contract, but the way he's playing right now do you let him go? I think Pudge is right, we will have some guys coming off the books that will free up space and will restructure some others' deals and come out with room enough to make a big play at 1 or 2 key players possibly.

I believe they are less likely to mess with the OL barring some horrible injury. They will retain Shaffer's services and bolster the line with a draft pick or two. I'd like to see them let Duckett go and get Davenport (who is a lot like Griffith to me). They could also look in the draft for another RB to backup Dunn. I would like to see them get another big target like Boerigter. I think he'd be a solid vet to help out round out the WR corp. I'd love to go for Reggie Wayne, but I think he could end up being more like Price in our system. At TE, I'd love to see them get another physical threat like Leonard Pope or Vernon Davis in the draft. Either one of these guys would give us a ton more options both in the run and pass situations.

On defense, I would love to see them push hard to sign Abraham and move Brady in a rotational role. Getting him would make a huge difference for our defense as a whole. I think we're in great shape where the DTs and LBs are concerned. At CB, I think will let Mathis go possibly and bring back Cash as an inexpensive option. Then I really hope they use their top pick on a CB or S. CB might be best because we could get a solid guy who could fit in at NB or push Webster to #3. I don't think they will ignore S any longer though and get the best FA they can. I also think they could select someone like Blue later in the draft to be a backup/ST guy. I like the mix we have with Peterson and Keonen for the special teams.

Oh, and there is also the QB situation! I have a feeling they might get an offer from a team for Schaub that will be very hard to pass up. We might be able to get a solid player and a 3rd-4th pick for him or even a 1st should someone be truly desparate. I think we cannot pass up the opportunity to get something for Matt before his deal is up. So, we are going to have to look at replacing both Schaub and Detmer. I think we could find another diamond in the middle rounds this year, or there are some very solid QBs with starting experience who could be had for a reasonable price. Kitna and McCown are a couple that interest me. We also have Randall on the practice squad who might move into backup role. I simply think that we could gain a lot for being willing to trade Schaub.

I have one solution for receiver that can replace Finneran and give us the exact same receiver but with better overall skills: Mike Hass, WR, Oregon State.

Haas is a playmaker and he has errupted this year for Oregon State. He's not as big as Finneran (6'1") but he has more speed and meat then Finneran does. He can also grab just about anything thrown around him much like Crumpler. Best of all I think Hass will probably fall to the 3rd round or so which would be the perfect place for us to nab a receiver to fill out that part of the roster. The first two picks of this upcoming draft need to be secondary. After that we are looking for depth.

Hass' Numbers
2003: 44 Receptions, 1013 Yards, 23 YPC, 7 TD's (Longest: 90 Yards)
2004: 86 Receptions, 1379 Yards, 16 YPC, 7 TD's (Longest: 49 Yards)
2005: 58 Receptions, 1047 Yards, 18 YPC, 6 TD's (Longest: 69 Yards)

And Oregon state still has 4 games to go on the season. That projects out to 1,643 Yards and 10 TD's. I like Hass a lot and he would fit in well with our offense I believe and he's a deep threat as well as a short range threat JMO.

I'm a big Morris backer simply because I think he could take over for Dunn and produce the same numbers if necessary.

Abraham,I was very impressed by him.I don't know his injury history but he would change the defense for the better if we had him.He reminds me of kerney and if we had both wow look out.He would be one of my fantasy players in free agency.Don't ask me how but I would almost do whatever(depending on his injury history) to sign abraham if the jets don't match. How about a sign a trade Schaub and this year's first for Abraham? Just a thought. He would cost a bundle but if warrick would agree to renegotiate and maybe some others or cut other players Abraham is a force and would make our secondary better.

I don't know if we would have any money left if we got abraham but perhaps there is a safety that would take less to come and play maybe for a championship.

Abraham is a beast and I would love nothing more than to have him here... Idoubt it would happen since he's gonna want a lot of money and I dunno that we will have it and be willing to part with it to get him....he would instantly make our entire defense better...

I'm thinking that we work on our secondary in the first 2 rounds, then we get either an O-Liner or D-Liner, than around the 5th or 6th we will pick up a WR...and use Free Agency for our O-line and D-line...and maybe a veteran safety.

Abraham is definitely one of the better pass rushers in the NFL, and is the prototype kind of DE that I think Mora/Donatell/McKay want. He is very quick off the edge and does a great job chasing the football in pursuit. He's not that strong at the point of attack, but he's not terrible either.

Abraham has had some injury concerns over recent years, missing a total of 13 games combined in 2003 and 2004. He's reportedly put on about 10 pounds of muscle this past year in order to be stronger and more durable. Thus far, it seems to be working since he hasn't missed a game, nor I don't think he's been on the injury report yet.

There are some character concerns about Abraham. One rumor I've heard is that the Jets have been reluctant to sign him to an extension because they believe that he won't live up to the contract and he'll get lazy. It didn't really help matters that he got into a verbal dispute with Jets DC Donnie Henderson after limited playing time in the season opener (due to him missing almost all of camp due to a holdout).

These "issues" coupled with the fact that he's going to cost an arm and a leg for anyone to sign (likely resulting in giving up a #1 pick and $12+ million in signing bonuses), make me iffy on signing Abraham. But there is no doubt of his talent. He's probably 2nd only to Freeney in terms of the league's best "speed" rushers. And reportedly has added Freeney's patented spin move to his repertoire (I vaguely remember him trying it on either Shaffer or Lehr last week to some considerable success).

On that list the ones who stand out to me are:

FB
Fred McCrary, Atlanta - I would expect we re-sign him.
WR
Peerless Price, Couch - He's been available for awhile now. Not sure anyone wants him.
Reggie Wayne, Indy - Would cost more than I would like to spend. Would love to have him though.
OL
Bob Whitfield, G-Men - Pay him minimum and bring him back to Atlanta. He should retire here.
Jon Runyan, Eagles - Would be a nice upgrade depending on price.
Steve Hutchinson, Seahawks - See Jon Runyan.
LeCharles Bentley, Saints - He would be a huge upgrade. He is worth persuing.
DE
John Abraham, Jets - Probably cost too much.
Kyle Vanden Bosch, Titans - See John Abraham.
DT
Grady Jackson, Packers - Go get him!
LB
Isn't Lavar Arrington a FA this season?
CB
Will Allen, Giants - Upgrade
Juran Bolden, Buccaneers - Would be nice to have him back. He can press cover. I always liked him.
Nate Clements, Bills - Too much money.
Charles Woodson, Raiders - Pay him whatever he asks!!
Keion Carpenter, Falcons - Bye bye KC
Omare Lowe, Falcons - Keep him as a backup
Kevin McCadam, Falcons - Our special teams sucked with him, Reese and Ulmer getting penalties. We can absorb his loss I believe.
Tank Williams, Titans - For the right price, definately.

I think we need to go heavy safety in the draft. We need 3 more of them right now. Defensive End and OL are the next 2 largest needs.
