Postby thescout » Sat Nov 05, 2005 5:24 pm

I will need to do some homework on the websites I just asked but if anyone knows any football websites that gives the stats for each year like Run/vs pass ratio ,top defenses, super bowl stats I would appreciate it.

Pro Football Reference is a good site. Here's another one:

Thanks for the website I will take a look and try to do another study on the pass/run ratio.I may look at some other factors like how high you rank in defense to get to the super bowl or some other intangibles.for me at leat the pass/run ratio tells me alot who may win the super bowl but will see after I do some more home work on this matter.Hopefully I can find the stats with the website you guys gave.

Well defensive ranking can be misleading. I recall one of the years the Rams went to the Super Bowl, their defense was ranked in the top 10. Not because they were that good and shut teams down, but their offense was so potent that most teams had to play catchup for 3 or more quarters, which makes your defense look a lot better because the opponent's offense becomes one-dimensional.

IMO it is ridicluous looking at the intangibles and how teams get to the Super Bowl. It's like trying to guess the lotto.

Not to say your crusade is a bad thing but a team gets to the Super Bowl because they are better or match up better with every team the play on the way there.

And, more than people like to admit, because they are lucky.

How do you explain that 90% winners of super bowl since 94

Postby thescout » Tue Nov 08, 2005 11:15 pm

Then if it so ridculous how do you explain that 90% if not more of the super bowl champs since 1994 have had a better balanced offense than the super bowl loser? Besides the pass/run ratio alone can't predict who will be in the Super Bowl but if you plan on being in the Super Bowl which is the goal of the Falcon's and other teams you better have a very balanced offense right now before sunday's game it was 58 run 42pass which tells me we need to improve alot if we even make it to the Super bowl.Luck and all the other intangibles I doubt could account for a 90% ratio winning the super bowl.

checking some numbers!

Postby thescout » Tue Nov 08, 2005 11:36 pm

About 78% of the teams making the super bowl since 1994 have had at least 45% run and pass. There have been 11 super bowls since 1994 2 teams lost the super bowl when they had the better pass/run ratio 99 rams with there powerful offense and 2002 bucs who didn't qualify since they didn't have a 45% pass/run ratio but they still had a better one than there competitor so I shouldn't count that but I did and there was one tie 2003 patriots/panthers which I counted for! Either way you slice there is a high corelation.Indy is way ahead of the falcon's and I don't think it matters because indy has such a powerful offense and there run/pass ratio will be hard to beat.
