FLOWERY BRANCH — Atlanta Falcons receiver Roddy White skipped practice today after being involved in an auto accident.
White's vehicle skidded off a road near the Falcons' training complex yesterday, an off day for the players. Traveling alone, the rookie receiver was heading to a grocery store for an autograph session with several teammates.
Coach Jim Mora says the vehicle was damaged but White wasn't seriously injured. No other vehicle was involved.
An official with the Hall County Sheriff's Department says a report on the wreck won't be available until tomorrow at the earliest.
White — the Falcons top draft choice this year — was hesitant to discuss details of the wreck. But he said it shouldn't keep him from playing in Sunday's crucial NFC South game against Tampa Bay. He said he could have practiced today, but Mora wanted him to rest.
Last season, defensive tackle Rod Coleman underwent knee surgery and missed three games after flipping his SUV in an early-morning crash reportedly caused by a deer running in front of his vehicle. Police said Coleman had been drinking but passed a field sobriety test.
