NEEDS RATING KEY

5.0 - High priority. This is a position that is a glaring weakness and there is the likelihood that this team cannot compete next year without making a major addition here.

4.0 - Medium Priority. This is an area that is an obvious weakness, but the team isn't quite desperate to make a major move here possibly because they have some young potential. But this is an area that if the team cannot fix via free agency, will definitely use one of their picks in the first three or four rounds to supplement.

3.0 - Upgrade Potential. This is a position that isn't a weakness per se, but there is significant room for an upgrade. If the right player comes along they will certainly snag him, but if they don't fix this position with a major free agent addition or early round pick, then it's not the end of the world.

2.0 - Depth Need. An area where there is a need to add depth. Perhaps there is an aging veteran and they might want to start to look at grooming his heir apparent or replacement. Not likely to be a high priority and a position that more than likely will be address in the middle and late rounds rather than with a top pick.

1.0 - Future Need. This is an area that is not a priority, and doesn't initially appear as a need. But there is some room to develop some depth for perhaps two or more years down the line. This is usually an area that a team will look at in the late rounds if at all.

0.0 - Non-need. This is a position that is a strength of their team, they have a solid starter, capable depth, and/or a young player at the position that they like and want to develop. Very little possibility this area is addressed and would be the equivalent of a wasted draft pick.

Top 7 Needs

1. LB - 4.0
2. OG - 3.0
3. DE - 2.0
4. RB - 1.5
5. CB - 1.5
6. K - 1.5
7. S - 1.5

Position by Position Breakdown

Quarterback - Rodgers confirmed the franchise's faith in him 3 years ago by helping leading the Packers to a Super Bowl win. Flynn played well as a reserve, and they should be fine here with the pair of them. NEED: 0.5

Running Back - Grant has one more year left on his contract and they aren't overly committed to him for the future, but he should be back for another year despite a roster bonus this off-season. Starks has emerged as a strong candidate to replace him. Jackson is a free agent and should be replaced with a mid/late round selection in the draft. NEED: 1.5

Fullback - Kuhn is a free agent, but expected back. Hall is also hitting the market, and isn't that valuable on offense, but is good on special teams. Johnson has been groomed as the heir apparent and has been fine in spots. Overall, they are strong here. NEED: 0.0

Wide Receiver - They have to make a decision whether to bring Driver back for another year. He was passed by both Nelson and Jones this past year. Jones contract is up and it's likely they'll try to re-up with him long-term. If they do part ways with Driver, they'll likely add another receiver to develop as the No. 4 guy since Swain is just average. NEED: 1.0

Tight End - Getting Finley back next year will strengthen this spot. Quarless was a solid receiver and a good No. 2. NEED: 1.0

Offensive Tackle - Clifton had a solid year, and Bulaga was solid on the right side. Tauscher probably won't be back for that reason, and the presence of Lang on the depth chart helps them. They might bring another right tackle to push Lang in the future, but at this point they are content with Bulaga & Lang as their heir apparent bookends to take over for Clifton & Tauscher in the future. NEED: 1.0

Offensive Guard - Colledge is a free agent and had a relatively good year, but the team isn't going to commit to him as a long-term starter since he's been mostly average. Sitton is solid on the right side. Lang is an option here, as well as Spitz, but they would probably prefer to solidify this spot with a draft pick in the early or middle rounds. NEED: 3.0

Center - They weren't sold on Wells 2 years ago, but he is coming off a strong year and is entering the last year of his contract. The 30 year old should get an extension. Otherwise they might use a late round pick on an insurance policy, but it's more likely they try to lock up Wells long-term. NEED: 1.0

Defensive Tackle - Raji's play got better downt he stretch, particularly with his pass rush. Green was able to contribute as a backup and should be back next year. They might add another body to boost depth, but it's not a major need. NEED: 1.0

Defensive End - Jenkins is a free agent and they want him back, but it's not going to come cheap. Pickett is a solid run defender, but he's a role player. The team didn't much from Mike Neal in his injury-plagued rookie season, but they did see some things from C.J. WIlson. Both are nice pieces to develop to replace Pickett a year or two from now. But if they lose Jenkins it will open up a big hole for their immediate future. Harrell and Jolly probably won't be back. NEED: 2.0

Linebacker - They are happy with Matthews. Bishop's solid play means that they have another solid guy in the middle. Hawk is expected back for another year. Barnett is coming off injury, and there is question whether they should keep both him and Hawk. Barnett is the better option for the future, but they might opt to dump him for a cheaper option in the draft. Zombo and Walden were decent opposite Matthews, but they want to add another guy that can provide consistent pressure from that side. NEED: 4.0

Cornerback - Williams is in line for a big extension. Shields looked promising as a rookie. But they need to shore up more depth since Lee hasn't developed much during his time here. They'll likely draft another body in the middle or late rounds to develop as a nickel back to take over when Shields replaces Woodson. NEED: 1.5

Safety - Burnett looked promising before injuries cut his season short. COllins is solid at free safety. Bigby probably won't be back, and getting Peprah back should provide decent depth, although they might look for more in the draft/free agency. NEED: 1.5

Kicker - Crosby is hitting hte open market, and while they aren't completely sold on him, they probably won't be able to find a better option in the draft/free agency, so he should be back. NEED: 1.5

Punter - Masthay had a promising rookie year. NEED: 0.0

A couple of corrections.

-CB Williams already got his extension.
-At safety they have at least 3 coming back from IR and there is no real need.
-Driver signed a deal last season that makes his future pay very samll and cap friendly.
-They have an abundance of LB's on the roster and it is not a need.

Look for them to continue to do as always. Draft the best player available.

They have an abundance of LBs, particularly OLBs, but none of them are playmakers. Zombo, Walden, Jones, Wilhelm, Poppinga, and Chillar are all backup-level talent. If you can replace any one of them with a true blue playmaker, then it's definitely a step in the right direction.
