Charlie Campbell's Latest Mock Draft

Postby thescout » Fri Jan 31, 2014 6:27 pm

Thought I would post Charlie's new mock for discussion. Looking at the picks Barr with pick 6 ,2nd round Donald and the tight end from Purdue in the 3rd. My observation I'm not so sure on Barr anymore. Reading Pudge's comments and from other boards plus seeing not make a difference in some games if I were picking I'd take Greg Robinson and the thought of having both Khalil Mack and Donald as pass rushers is intriguing. The 2nd round pick Donald I don't think will be there with our 2nd rounder. If he were I'd be ecstatic. The 2nd rounder tight end from Purdue haven't seen him play. If he indeed looks like he can block and catch and be a solid player in the future I wouldn't complain about the pick . I don't think the starting tight end is on the roster now. We need an upgrade for sure.

You kept saying Purdue, and in my head I was like WTF is he talking about, I've never heard of a TE at Purdue that is a possibility as a 3rd round pick? Then I saw it was Niklas from Notre Dame.

Whoops! Error by Scout. Notre Dame is where is plays ball at. Don't think Niklas can stretch the field? If we can find another receiver to stretch the field we could live with Niklas.

From what I've seen, Niklas is similar to Toilolo. His size makes him an effective guy when it comes to attacking the seams, but he's not very fast (Toilolo is faster) and will struggle to separate at the next level, having to rely on body position, size, strength, and length to beat man coverage.

Can we live with Niklas as a 3rd round pick? Sure, but it'll be dependent on the system the Falcons employ. IMO, the sort of offense that features Niklas and Toilolo is one that features a lot of 2-TEs and heavy sets that runs the ball a lot, and is built around the play-action pass on the outside. Much more similar to the Mike Mularkey offense in '08 or what he had shown in Buffalo and Pittsburgh.

If the Falcons are going to be that team, then it'd be a good pick IMO. But obviously I don't think the Falcons have shown any inclination the past few years that is what they want to be.

Good points Pudge. Yes I think with the receivers we have we need someone who can stretch the field also.I'm not sure what tight ends could do that in the 3rd or beyond rounds. I'll need to some research on this subject.
