It seems that the Eagles are gearing up to make a big push for some more expensive FAs...Asomugha? Ray Edwards?

Here are the Eagles free agents:

K David Akers, LB Stewart Bradley, OC/OG Nick Cole, LB Omar Gaither, S Antoine Harris, CB Ellis Hobbs, RB Jerome Harrison, OLB Akeem Jordan, OG Max Jean-Gilles, S Quintin Mikell, DE Bobby McCrary, CB Dimitri Patterson, P Sav Rocca, OLB Ernie Sims, and OG Reggie Wells.

Eagles won’t re-sign any of their unrestricted free agents

Most teams talk endlessly about the importance of re-signing their own players. The Eagles are taking the exact opposite approach.

The Eagles won’t re-sign any of their free agents.

Jonathan Tamari of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the team won’t pursue linebacker Stewart Bradley. Or safety Quintin Mikell. Or punter Sav Rocca. Or running back Jerome Harrison. Others that will get ignored: cornerback Dimitri Patterson, center Nick Cole and guard Max Jean-Gilles.

Bradley and Harrison are probably the biggest surprises on that list. Harrison produced well as LeSean McCoy’s backup, but the team drafted a running back and will look elsewhere in free agency. Bradley was a team leader for a while, but won’t merit an offer.

We know the Eagles are gearing up to make big moves in free agency. They needed to clear the decks, and they did so by letting go of their entire free agent class.

I was always a huge Ernie Sims fan. I would take a look at him since Nicholas may not come back. He could seriously push Peterson for starting spot. Please Tommy, you have to make one move since you won't get any damn pass rusher.

Sims is fast and physical, but injury prone and not an instinctual defender. The Falcons can do much better than him if they are looking for a starting outside linebacker. He really isn't anything more than a rich man's Demorrio Williams. Not to mention he adds nothing in coverage. If the Falcons are going to sign a veteran linebacker, it should be someone that can potentially play in nickel situations.

I vote for Keith Bulluck if they are looking for someone cheap and short-term. Long-term, why not Sims former teammate: Stewart Bradley??

I like Stewart but he reminds me a lot like Lofton. Isn't that something you don't want Pudge. He sounds EVIL!! Also don't think Stewie can play on the outside.

Bradley and Lofton are similar. I think Bradley shows a bit more awareness and fluidity in coverage than Lofton. But I wouldn't mind having another Lofton type playing the SAM linebacker spot. My beef with Lofton is that I think he's ultimately limited as a 4-3 MLB, but if we had a player of his caliber at SAM linebacker, you wouldn't hear a peep out of me. I think in order to have a top level 4-3 defense, your MLB has be a lot better than Lofton.

Lofton IMO has proven himself to be a great fit as a 3-4 ILB, but is just average in a 4-3 scheme. You can't have a MLB in the latter scheme that gets exposed in space as much as Lofton does and think that you can build around that. A player like Kirk Morrison (which Lofton is) isn't going to be the centerpiece of an elite or top-level defense. E.J. Henderson gets by in Minnesota because he has 5 Pro Bowlers and Ray Edwards surrounding him. If our defense had 5 Pro Bowlers, then Lofton would be a lot more acceptable. If Weatherspoon, Moore, and Robinson all become Pro Bowlers, and Babineaux and Grimes maintain their current level of play at a consistent Pro Bowl level, and Biermann becomes an 8+ sack guy, then Lofton would be suitable as the MLB.

Wow Pudge that was a real impressive post you just put out there. I couldn't agree more about Henderson, good player but if you put him on a defense like the Broncos he will get destroyed. I have my hopes on all those guys except the Biermann, I am pretty down on him. Other than that, I think all the guys you mentioned can really be big time players ( bring it Dunta haters).
