Ryan said Sanchez made the stupidest play ever on Sunday, and then came back saying he and Sanchez are great. But actions speak louder than words.

The Jets did happen to draft Greg McElroy this year, a finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship and something like a ridiculous 5.1 GPA while at Alabama. In other words, the smartest dude ever to play the QB position. Is it a coincidence that they drafted him and then 6 months later we hear that Ryan doesn't think Sanchez is all that bright?...

This thing is going down in a barrel of flames. Jets management forcing Sanchez down Rex's throat. Sort of like what happened with Byron Leftwich, David Garrard, and Jack Del Rio in Jacksonville?

But it's a 6.1 at Auburn! The guy is a Rhodes Scholar. He can't help it he didn't go to a respectable Northern school like Penn State or something.

We saw this whole scene here in the early 90s.

Great point! I never made the Glanville comparison in my mind but it's spot on.

The funny thing is both he and Rex have great football minds and they both put together winning teams. At first.

I guess we're approaching the point where Rex scapegoats his QB ala Glanville with Chris Miller?

Could be. After getting canned here I don't think JG ever got another NFL gig but I think the dif in the two may be that--for the most part--Rex has withheld scathing commentary inside the coaching fraternity. His father was the same story and he did get the Glanville black ball.

Well unless this Jets thing completely falls apart, which certainly is possible with the media scrutiny from New York and like a 4-12 season, I think Rex is going to be OK.

He's a well respected defensive coordinator, so he's definitely going to get a job in that role even if he's axed by the Jets. And I think he's such a large persona that he seems like he'll get a second gig as a head coach. Herm Edwards, Eric Mangini, Mike Mularkey, Chan Gailey, Romeo Crennel, Wade Phillips, Norv Turner all got second (and some got third) jobs in the league despite not doing ANYTHING in their first gigs to merit it.

You don't think someone will hire Rex again in 2-3 years if the Jets fired him after this year? Like I'm not saying that the Jets just become bad in order for things to fall apart, I'm talking like with Brad Childress last year in Minnesota, where players are calling him out and its obvious to everyone that the inmates are running the asylum.

You're arguing with yourself here, Pudge. I didn't say I thought Rex would get black balled. I said his father did. Rex has bridled his tongue enough to keep options open if things go to shizzle. Jerry never knew when to quit carnival barking. I don't think too many modern coaches would do something like the California Trophy.
