It's hard not to get excited but at the same time, this better not be a ploy to get rid of Grimes. I'm shocked that Dunta is only one year older than Asante, that's pretty interesting. This trade could really be gold by producing more interceptions and sacks. Plus I think Asante will be even more motivated. Let's just hope that this doesn't turn into Eagles 2.0 like last year.

If they keep all three corners, I'd think they will put Asante were he wants to play. He was odd man out in Philly and wasn't afraid to voice his opinion about it to the press. We don't need that here.

How did they get this under the cap, when the reports before the signing were that we had $1.7 mil to play with?
What compensation did we give for him?
Who is going to get released so that we can afford what draft picks we have?

We gave a 6th rounder I believe which isn't terrible at all. But I guess it depends on who we are going to be cutting to make cap space. If we lose 3 or 4 starters or high snap guys.......it blemishes the deal a bit in my eyes.

We just stole Asante from the Eagles (money wise and compensation wise). I am now in a very good place.

I personally love the deal Asante Samuel for a 6th round pick which more than likely would have ended up being a camp body/practice squad player, special teams player, or someone who was inactive for every game. I dont know who they will put in the slot but I was able to see Asante struggle all year in Philly playing in the slot so maybe they try Dunta there I know he played some slot in Houston when he used to shadow the opposition's best reciever. Now they need to turn their focus towards the trenches (OL preferebly).

I'm assuming the Falcons are going to keep all 3 (ironically they are 29, 30, and 31) and we will see more nickle packages going forward. The NFL is more vertical than it ever has been in the past. Having 3 good corners is almost mandatory these days unless you can make up for it in pass rush and Atlanta can't.

I love the move for Asante... 6th round pick and a decent contract for a Pro Bowl corner to bolster a secondary with another pro-bowler in Grimes and a hard hitter in Robinson.

I have faith that Nolan came make this trio work and work well.

Curious to see what Atlanta had to do to make Asante's deal work under the cap. I suspect Ovie was involved whether it be restructure or other moves. Perhaps Atlanta also managed to get Grimes to come to terms on a longer term deal?

According to nfl.com it was for a 7th rounder.

As long as Grimes stays long term, I'll be happy. It's crazy how much I hated Grimes a few years ago and now to me he's irreplaceable because I think he's that valuable. The more I'm doing research, the more I love this trade because Falcons don't have any big free agents to sign. Turner won't have to re signed after this year for big money and they didn't overspend to re sign Abe or anyone. Falcons didn't over spend for Lofton and now they stole Asante. This off-season has been great!

 7th rounder is stealing. Still feel like we're more talent accumulators, than team builders, but he's an upgrade from Daunta imo. Now Nolan's gotta go earn that paycheck...

Not every team is the Packers but hey our quarterback, two main wide receivers, pro bowl right tackle, future pro bowl outside linebacker, and pro bowl cornerback are players that started out in Atlanta.

Again, the question I have is what solution do the Falcons possess to make Dunta-Grimes-Samuel work that the Eagles lacked that didn't make Nnamdi-DRC-Samuel work a year ago?

This is why I'm not fully on board with this move. I'm not against it, but skeptical, although perhaps that'll be growing into cautious optimism in the coming days/weeks. I think the Falcons got Asante for a real bargain, thus potentially negated any negativity that will come. But then again, I made similar statements last summer when we only paid $30 million for Ray Edwards.

I do have more confidence in Mike Nolan than Juan Castillo, but I do wonder if this is just another "all in" move by the Falcons looking for short-term gains in the hopes that like Edwards and Jones moves before it, it'll be enough to push this team over the top.

I think Dimitroff did a heck of a job negotiating this deal and Samuel's new contract! I have faith that Nolan will do big things with the talent he now has to work with!

I will say this and that's both of those corners were in their first years with the team. Dunta and Grimes have been starting together for about two years now. Experience with the system really counts so don't forget that Pudge. Also despite the critics, Falcons safeties are better than the Eagles so I don't think they'll be left alone like last year. Also Falcons have a better run defense than the Eagles so I think the changes are very significant from Eagles. The Falcons defense is more experienced, has better safeties, better linebackers, and can stop the run better than Eagles. Only thing different for Samuels is that he won't get the aid of a great pass rush but I don't think he'll need it.

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, the Broncos thought they had a deal done for CB Asante Samuel, but he changed his mind.
The Broncos were heavily tied to Samuel throughout the process, but the Falcons swooped in over the last few days. Denver's offer was less than the three-year, $18.5 million contract Samuel agreed to with Atlanta. Obviously, it wasn't quite enough to get him to bite. Recently-signed Tracy Porter remains the favorite to start opposite of Champ Bailey in Denver.
