Why is he not effective? I mean, 2.7 ypc?? Our running game is pretty much anemic and it's gonna catch up with us sooner or later. I mean, Matt Ryan threw the ball 52 times last week and that cannot be something that happens too often.

Should they they running Snelling more? How do we this? And how do we get Quizz going?

Quizz is not an explosive player in the sense that he's liable to generate a bunch of 10-20 yard gains that will boost his YPC.

When you only get a handful of carries, it's not conducive to get a high YPC. If there is a game where we see Quizz get 8-12 carries, I think you'll see a more respectable YPC from him.

The offensive line hasn't exactly been blowing open huge holes either.

Yeah, I don't think Turner is as bad as people think that he is. That said, he's also not worth what we're paying him at this point. Whether we go all the way this year or not, there needs to be a concerted effort to boost our offensive and defensive lines in the off season. If we cut Turner, let Grimes walk, and let Abe walk, we should be in a good position to make some moves.

Why would we let Abe walk? He's 45% of our pass rush.

Good point Pudge, he's only got two years left on his contract, there's no reason to cut him with him playing at such a high level. We will have a late first round pick this year, that's a good location to snag a running back and/or Tight end, and that's what we should do imho.

Sorry, I forgot that he has 1 year left. But do you think that we should renew him at 10mil + a year at that point?

Two years actually. He's signed through the 2014 season.

I don't know the exact terms of Abe's contract that he signed this off-season, but it's a 3-yr. $17 million deal at its base, and another $4 million is due in escalators. I'm assuming if he continues to play the way he has for the remainder of the year, he'll hit those escalators.

Presumably then, his cap hit over the next two years will be somewhere around $6-8 million each year.

I think Abe's talk of $$ way back in February was because he knows that the deal he signed this year was likely to be the final deal he'd sign with an NFL team, so his mindset was to maximize it.

So I think the Falcons and Abe all understand that the deal he got, is what he's going to get. No need to do anything on his contract. As long as Abe continues to perform, he'll continue to get paid, and then in 2015 he may hang it up. Hopefully by then we'll have found his replacement.
