What Happened To Logic?

Postby Emmitt » Fri Mar 01, 2013 1:11 pm

I've seen some rumors (not just from Roddy White) and links that the Falcons may get Dwight Freeney. Now let me get this straight, you want to cut a 35 year old defensive lineman, who is still productive and is such a great veteran presence to a 33 year old defensive lineman. I'd lose serious love for Dmitiroff if that's his master plan to bolster the pass rush. At best, Freeney is a slight upgrade over Abraham but he's not going to be savior. Abraham was getting paid too much, but the fact that I heard no attempt at reconstructing his deal is ridiculous. I hope they have a plan to create a productive pass rush because I'm still standing by this being a bad move.

I think the Falcons cutting Abraham suggests that is NOT the plan.

Johnson or Bennett would be my guess. Assuming we don't switch to 3-4 and get cheaper run stuffers(move Babs to DE even) and spend our $$ on a NT.

The more I think about this, the more I think we are moving to a 3-4. I think Nolan prefers it, and I think Smith is giving more reign to Nolan in structuring the scheme and input in who we cut and who we sign or draft. I could be wrong. To me, BVG didn't really do anything but coach Smith's style of D. I think Nolan brought with him a different style, and seeing how that paid off, and the interest in him last season, they made an arrangemt to keep him by letting him more in the process.

It's my theory, anyway.

Abraham is calling in about 45 minutes to an hour. Very intrigued.

Abraham didn't sound very optimistic and sounded sad. I really hope he comes back because just listening to them talk to him even in that brief interview was just painful.
