Interesting theory from Peter King

Postby dirtybirdnw » Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:44 pm

I was reading MMQ on SI and thought it interesting that King seems to think that the Falcons are set on trying to get DT Sheldon Richardson.

I suppose this would add fuel to the fire of Atlanta looking to go 3-4 if we did draft him. Missouri used him as a DE with 3 down linemen. Of course he could also be a 3-technique tackle in the 4-3.

Peter King via SI.com:

1. I think, if the Falcons had their way, they'd come out of the first round with Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson. But I also think it'd be too costly to move up from No. 30 in the first round far enough to get Richardson, who is very likely to go in the top 15.

I posted this over on the War Room...

I think two things.. Richardson could be used as 3-Technique DT in the 4-3 alignment. You could even play him at DE based on his athleticism.

That being said, if the Falcons move up to draft him me things this signals a change to a 3-4 alignment.

Of course, Atlanta could just be planning for the eventual demise of Babs due to age.

Why? Sheldon Richardson is a classic 3-technique player. He's 6-2/295, the same size, dimensions, and quickness as Babineaux, another classic one-gap 4-3 disruptor. A 3-4 defensive end's ideal measurements are 6-5/295, and very few in the league exist that are under 6-4.

I've heard negative things about Richardson's character through the grapevine, which some assure me means that he won't be on the Falcons radar due to the whole black dot thing.

But as far as finding someone that can bring what Babs has brought to the table over the past 4-5 years, unlike anybody currently on the roster, Richardson has the potential.

good God, no. Please no more scratch and dent Polynesians! Plus, when you name your kid Peerless, or Star that never really works out in the long run. :ninja:
