Brian Banks & Atlanta

Postby dirtybirdnw » Fri Aug 30, 2013 3:30 pm

Ironic that I've been the one complaining about the Banks coverage and I'm probably the first to post the story about Banks getting cut and his future.

No surprises here that Banks won't be moving on with the team as a player. It does seem that Blank is very interested on keeping him with the organization. Good read:

After the heart warming story of him beating the charges and everything, not much of a surprise but it is a little disappointing that he was cut. He was able to get his message out though, and try to cash in on a dream that was stolen from him.. I'm happy to hear that Blank wants to keep him around though!

Wish him the best.

Seems that we will have plenty of room on the practice squad for him if we decide to keep him around. Frankly, I wouldn't have any problem with having him on the practice squad. He's a physical specimen, and he did show some good instincts in his limited playing time. A full season of practice with a playoff caliber NFL team should help him considerably. That said, he will be 29 years old next year, but he won't have the wear and tear of a typical 29 year old NFL player.

Saw him on FoxSports 1 the day he was cut, and he sounded like a guy that had very little interest in continuing to play football. I think he realized the gap between himself and other young LBs was insurmountable given his age and learning curve.

I would imagine that Banks may stick around with the Falcons as a player liason on community engagement type roll. That would be nice to see.
