Pro football Weekly Said Roddy White been impressive

Postby thescout » Thu Jun 30, 2005 2:00 am

I was reading pro football weekly tidbits and saw they said that white has been impressive so far and could be the no2 receiver starting the season. We need both receivers to come on strong this year.Teams will be gunning for us and the receviers need to do a much better job to take pressure off of vick.

I don't know how to interpret all this. Last year, Jenkins was very impressive in shorts, but once the pads went on, he basically disappeared to special teams until November. I'd like to believe White is picking things up quickly. But as I recall some writer noting a while back, it's easy for a rookie WR to be impressive in OTAs because they are just in shorts, and it usually means he can use his athleticism to outclass smaller and less athletic DBs. Once the pads go on, its a different story, as now it comes down to precise route-running, beating jams, etc.

We definitely need Jenkins to step up on offense this year. As for White, it would be a huge bonus, but I'm not expecting it. Just like Jenkins last year, I really don't see White getting a lot of playing time this year. His best hope is that a guy like Price or Dez White is cut in training camp, since even with an impressive early summer, I don't see him being higher than No. 5 on the depth chart right now.
