Passing

Postby MarylandFalcon1 » Tue Nov 01, 2005 1:46 pm

Yeah, passing is such a strange thing. I still contend it is all about the Ws. Look at Eli Manning on Sunday....

12-31 (there is the magic 12 completions Dirty, again just one more than Vick), 146, 1 TD/ 1 INT, and they shut Washington out and beat them what... 36-0. Rushing is the key. 201 yards from Tiki Barber. If you can rush you can win in this league. Vick is just fine, really.

No he's not. He'll never get it done in this league unless he passes for 300 a game. He also needs to throw for 2 TD's a game. Thats the only formula for success in this league.[/sarcasm]

This message was brought to you by the AFMB^^^^.

Easy to do when the D sell out to stop the run & lets the receiver get behind them, and then the receiver has the audacity to actually bring the ball into his hands & cradle it like a cherished baby.

Wha???? Big Ben has completed 60.8% of his passes, for 11 touchdowns against 2 picks. His passer rating is a gawdy 112.4. Not a good comparison GSU.

Big Ben

Postby MarylandFalcon1 » Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:40 am

Big Ben is one of those 'no mistake' guys. He doesn't throw the ball that much, but when he does they count. He is only completing 13 passes a game this year for about 190 yards. Still, that is 14 yards per completed pass with 11 touchdowns. Both he and Vick are in a running style offense and they both benefit from it, however, Ben gets you with some sweet passes and Vick burns you with his legs. Both win games but the one thing I will give Ben is that he doesn't give the ball away very often something that you are not seeing in Vick, be that with INTs or Fumbles.

Just so you know, Vick is completing 11 passes per game this year for about 121 yards, and 10 yards per completed pass. That is pretty close to Ben before you look at the 5 TDs and 6 INTs.

Note: Vick does have 3 rushing TDs to Ben's 1. And I couldn't find stats on fumbles lost by either QB this season.

I will give Vick the benefit of the doubt when it comes to interceptions. A lot of his picks come from balls dropped (ricocheing off a players pads because they forgot what hands are for) and deflections. Vick has only thrown the ball directly to a defender twice this year.

He gets a pass because he can complete one. Ever watch Big Ben? He already has composure in the pocket, knows when to stay in there and take the hit, knows when to take a step left or right to buy more time amd knows when to put it under his arm and run. Those are all thing we hope Vick learns soon.

Comparing Vick to Big Ben is not going to score any points. The only similiarities between them is that both are mobile QBs when compared to most NFL starters and that they play in a very run-oriented offense.
