DOMINIQUE FRANKS
5-11/194
Oklahoma Junior
40: 4.46

PROS: Has nice hips, showing ability to turn and run with the receiver. Does a good job keeping things in front of him, and has the burst to come up and challenge throw. Has nice ability to wrap up and good closing burst on the ball in run support. Also contributed on punt returns.
CONS: Needs to improve his footwork in coverage. Doesn't always show the burst to break up the pass or jump the route. Not a great tackler, with a tendency to duck his head.
OVERVIEW: A two-year starter that formed a solid pair of corners with Brian Jackson the past two years. He was the better of the two. He had 6 picks and 15 pass breakups in his two years as a starter, but also scored 3 defensive touchdowns. Also returned 29 punts for 446 yards (15.4 avg) during his career.
NFL FORECAST: Franks doesn't stand out in any way, but he should be capable of being a starting corner at the next level. He's better suited than his counterpart Jackson to playing man coverage at the next level. He's not going to be a lockdown corner by any means, but if he polishes up his technique and such he should be a capable starter. He should also be able to contribute on special teams. He was never the guy as a punt returner, but got opportunities and took advantage of them. I think at the very least he should make a very good nickel corner if he doesn't improve enough to become a capable starter. I don't think any team will be putting him against top wideouts but he should be a nice complementary corner. Probably like the equivalent of Kevin Walter on defense: fairly dependable, but nothing special. He needs polish, but I think he should be able to start contributing as a starter by his third year.
ATL FORECAST: Franks could contribute in Atlanta because he has good size and ability. He can definintely push the current group of corners for the starting spot besides Robinson, although as a rookie the best you're probably hoping for is him pushing for time in the nickel. I wouldn't expect big things from him right away, but by the end of his second season he should have carved out a decent niche for himself as a nickel guy, and perhaps by his third season will be a starter. He's not a great piece, but he can help add size and complement the current group, probably becoming a nice replacement for a guy like Brian Williams in the lineup if not a long-term starting option.
VALUE: He's a solid option that should go somewhere in the third round. For a team really needy at the position he might sneak in at the end of the second round.
