Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports the Atlanta Falcons are believed to be the frontrunners to acquire free agent LB Ed Hartwell (Ravens), according to Hartwell's agent Harold Lewis. Another undisclosed suitor is also believed to be pursuing Hartwell.
This would be a great move. Hartwell has shined in the 3-4 the past few years, but I believe he's the solid run stopping MLB that can really do good things in the 4-3 as well. He's tough and fiesty and really does remind me a lot of Ray Lewis. This would be an awesome move if we can get him.
It would likely mean that Chris Draft will be cut in June. The Falcons could save $1.2 million if he is cut then, or could save about $875,000 if he's cut now.
Draft's ability as depth is not as needed since both Keith Brooking and Ike Reese can play that position, and I also think that Demorrio can move inside.
