Grant still wants to be a Falcon
Hunt Archbold of the Smyrna-Vinings Patch reports that former New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant wants to play for the Atlanta Falcons. A year ago, the AJC reportedthen that Grant wanted to play for the Falcons.
Grant, 32, spent two weeks with the Chicago Bears this past season, but was inactive both weeks before being cut in October. He spent training camp with the Miami Dolphins after being cut by the Saints in the spring. Grant was a first round pick by the Saints in 2002, and spent 8 seasons as a starter. He finished both of his final two seasons on the injured reserve due to triceps injuries. Grant, a Georgia native and University of Georgia alum indicated that he hopes to get back to the NFL once the lockout ends and believes he still can play several years in the NFL.
Last May, he pled no content to misdemeanor charges for public fighting stemming from a February 2008 incident where he was involved in a brawl outside a Georgia nightclub where a pregnant woman was shot to death. Grant wound up paying a $1000 fine and getting a year’s probation. During the melee Grant was stabbed in the neck. He also faces a looming four-game suspension over the StarCaps case, which has been deferred by the league due to litigation.
