Jackson and Zimmer not candidates

January 4th, 2008

Steve Wyche of the AJC reports that incumbent offensive and defensive coordinators Hue Jackson and Mike Zimmer will not be considered candidates for the head coaching position. Both Jackson and Zimmer were hired by ex head man Bobby Petrino, and now have been given permission to seek employment elsewhere. Per the AJC, Zimmer is set to interview for the vacant defensive coordinator position with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Both Zimmer and Jackson remain under contract with the Falcons, as do all their remaining assistants, but their futures with the team will be determined by the new head coach if they don’t leave for better jobs elsewhere.

Last season, Zimmer interviewed in San Diego for their head coaching position. Last month, Jackson was granted an interview from Duke University for their head job as well. That job has since been filled.
