Moneyball – Week 14 Review

Not the greatest offensive performance from the Falcons, but they got the job done. Ryan wasn’t spectacular, but was able to spread the ball around to multiple receivers and the Falcons were able to get multiple players involved in the passing game. The offensive success was largely put on the back of Michael Turner, who had another strong performance. Because of that, blocking was mostly good, but was sloppy at times. McClure struggled a bit with some of the Panthers size inside, particularly Andre Neblett. But otherwise, he had one of his better games. Blalock had a nice game, and both Gonzalez and Jenkins contributed on the edge as blockers. Roddy had a pretty quiet game until the end where he had a couple of first down grabs.

Talk about from bad to just despicable.

That was a quote by Ron Pitts during the course of the game to describe the Panthers offense. I thought that was pretty funny.

Defensively, the Falcons gave up some big plays on the ground. And the goat on many of those plays was Curtis Lofton, who was key blocked 6 times. Almost every big play the Panthers had involved a lineman or fullback taking out Lofton. The Falcons need to do a better job of their own linemen keeping him clean, but at the same time Lofton has to step up his game too. William Moore was also the victim as well for the same reasons, as the Falcons started creeping him up more in the box. Other than that, the defense played well. Jonathan Babineaux was living in the Panthers backfield, and Corey Peters had his strongest performance to date. Both Biermann and Abe brought pressure, and Mike Peterson had a strong performance as well. Stephen NIcholas, Brian Williams, and Chauncey Davis also made their fair share of good plays.
