Andrew Steven Levitre was born on May 15, 1986 in Los Gatos, CA. He attended San Lorenzo Valley High in Felton, CA. His last name is pronounced "Luh-Vee-Tree." As a redshirt freshman at Oregon State he started the final game of the year at right tackle after appearing in 11 games. That season he earned the first of four consecutive Academic All-Pac-10 honors. As a sophomore he appeared in all 14 games, logging starts at right tackle for the final 12 games. He also was named All-Pac-10 honorable mention that season. His junior year he started all 13 games, including the first nine at right tackle and the final four at left tackle. He was a second-team All-Pac-10 honoree that season. As a senior he again started all 13 games, this time at left tackle and was a second team All-American and first team All-Pac-10 honoree. He was originally selected by the Buffalo Bills in the second round (51st overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.
