Brett Christopher Romberg was born on October 10, 1979 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Attended Belle River (ONT) High. He was a reserve left guard as a true freshman, and redshirted the following year. As a sophomore, he took over starting center duties. As a junior starter, he earned 1st team All Big East honors along with being a finalist for the Rimington Award, awarded annually to the nation's top center. As a senior, he won the Rimington Award along with being a 1st team All-American and All-Big East honoree. He registered 33 pancake blocks as a senior. He was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2003.
