Christopher Pierre Hope was born on September 29, 1980 in Rock Hill, SC where he attended Rock Hill HS. His cousin is former NFL linebacker Gerald Dixon, who played with the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and San Diego Chargers between 1993 and 2001. As a true freshman at Florida State, he was a reserve safety that played in all 13 games. He finished the year with 34 tackles, 2 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. He earned the starting nod as a sophomore, playing in all 12 games. He had 41 tackles, 2 for loss, 4 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. As a junior, he earned his first All-ACC team honors, getting named to the 2nd team. He had 83 tackles, 5 for loss, 2 interceptions, 8 breakups, 1 forced fumble, and 1 recovery that year. He also earned 1st team Academic All-American honors that year as well. As a senior, he was a starter with 11 appearances, 76 tackles, 1 for loss, 3 interceptions, 10 breakups, and 1 forced fumble. He earned 1st team All-ACC honors, as well 1st team Academic All-ACC honors as well. He was originally selected in the 3rd round (94th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was named to the 2008 AFC Pro Bowl team.
