Charaun Jaree Goodwin was born on February 4, 1990 and attended the Linsly School in Wheeling, WV. After high school, he went to Bethany College and briefly played basketball before transferring to Fairmont State after two years. He walked onto Fairmont's football team as a junior, appearing in 10 games and starting twice at wide receiver. He finished the year with 24 catches for 440 yards (18.3 avg) and four touchdowns and also blocked a field goal. He transferred to California (PA) the following year. As a senior he appeared in 11 games and logged one start. He finished the year with 11 receptions for 131 yards (11.9 avg) and one touchdown, and also blocked a punt. He also returned one kickoff for 25 yards. He was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 2014 NFL Draft.
