He was born on November 4, 1994 in New Orleans, LA, where he attended Jesuit High. As a true freshman he played in all 13 games as a reserve at weak-side linebacker as well as special teams. He finished the year with 23 tackles, three tackles for loss and a fumble recovery with 15 of his tackles coming on special teams, working both on the kickoff and punt coverage teams. He appeared in all 13 games as a sophomore, finishing with 15 tackles including seven on special teams. He also added a tackle for loss. As a junior he earned one start in 13 appearances, recording 27 tackles (including six on special teams), 3.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup and a fumble recovery. He was promoted to the starting weak-side linebacker as a senior, starting 11 of 12 games. He led the team with 100 tackles (including four on special teams) and 13.5 tackles for loss, and also added five sacks, two interceptions, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. He was also named a finalist for the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker. He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round (50th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
